As an extension of our fabulous Perspective Drawing course we welcome back Rob Connell for a part two! This time around the course will be focusing on perspective drawing with a life model and learning how to draw the human form. This course is geared towards those who have completed part one or anyone who has an interest in learning to improve their drawing skills. If you’re a regular attendee of our life drawing sessions this is a great program to improve your skills! Each session will have a life model to draw live.
The practice of figure drawing has a long-standing history in the visual arts. The process can be challenging, particularly with respect to rendering curves, lines, shading, and the overall composition of the subject. In this course, we will apply previously acquired knowledge of shapes, shading, and perspective to create the perception of space within the picture plane using a live model.
March 19 - Week 1:
We will explore the lines and shapes within the human form and their application in figure drawing. Beginning with perspective line drawings and shapes to construct the figure, we will progress to creating a comprehensive representation of the model and develop an understanding of how to convey depth within a picture plane.
March 26 - Week 2:
Shading and shape play an essential role in understanding the human form. We will examine the tension and relaxation of skin and how shadow can create this effect, as well as the lighting conditions within a studio environment.
April 2 - Week 3:
To expand your understanding further, we will utilise brown paper and explore the use of black and white charcoal. This will facilitate comprehension of the body's tonal values, how certain body parts appear more prominent and detailed, and how the body recedes towards the horizon, creating space within the picture plane.
April 9 - Week 4:
The course will conclude with an extended pose session lasting a couple of hours. During this time, we will apply all the skills acquired throughout the course, allowing ample time to create a final work.
