Led by local artist Joel Vanderduys, this course blends technical skill-building with creative exploration, guiding you from “where do I start?” to creating your own finished artwork on canvas.
What You’ll Learn
Over four weeks, you’ll be introduced to the foundations of acrylic painting techniques, materials, mediums and creative approaches in a supportive, inspiring studio environment.
Weeks 1–2: Technique & Exploration
We begin by building your visual language. You’ll experiment with a range of acrylic painting techniques and tools, including:
Brushwork and mark-making
Layering and blending
Texture, mediums and mixed media applications
Colour theory, mixing and palette development
Understanding composition and visual balance
This is your time to play, test, and discover what excites you.
Weeks 3–4: Your Canvas, Your Vision
With your new skills in place, you’ll begin your own acrylic painting on canvas, guided step-by-step by Joel.
You’ll be supported in developing your concept, refining your composition, and bringing your painting to life—resulting in a finished artwork you’ll be genuinely proud of.
